Elderly couple killed in Mesa crash
Two people killed in a Mesa accident on Saturday afternoon have been identied as Sylvester E. Green, 79, and Delores M. Green, 74. Both were pronounced dead about 1 p.m. at the scene of the crash near Higley and McKellips roads, near the Sunrise Village neighborhood.
The Greens collided with Gerald French, 75, who was driving a shuttle van for a nearby auto dealership. The couple was trying to make a left turn out of their neighborhood with their Buick Century into the moderate afternoon traffic on McKellips.
However, they turned into the path of the van driven by French, an employee of Honda of Superstition Springs, and were T-boned, Wessing said. There was nothing Frenchcould have done to avoid the collision, Wessing said.
French suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol played a role in the crash.
