Cell phones the cause of two collisions in two hours
Police say cell phones played a part in two collisions that happened within a two-hour span in Peoria.
In the first collision, on Sept. 5, the driver of a small pickup reached down to pick up his cell phone, causing him to drive off the roadway in the 7200 block of West Peoria Avenue. The driver then hit an irrigation gate and slammed into a live electrical power pole.
Less than two hours later, a driver on her cell phone ran a red light at 75th Avenue and Thunderbird Road, colliding with a vehicle making a left turn. Police are reminding the community that using cell phones while driving can be dangerous.
