Alcohol and speed may be a factor in Goodyear
Alcohol and speed were possible factors in a collision Friday morning on Estrella Parkway south of Yuma Road in Goodyear.
A Ford Mustang convertible and a Mercedes sedan were southbound on Estrella Parkway when the Ford collided with the Mercedes' back corner. Officers were called to the scene about 8:50 a.m.
According to police, the Ford was traveling in the left lane when it struck the Mercedes and flipped onto its roof, sliding nearly 350 feet. The crash forced the Mercedes, traveling in the right lane, to veer right and hit a fire hydrant. The impact tore the fire hydrant from its base and forced the Mercedes to swing left before colliding with a brick wall.
Both drivers were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Their names were not released.
